‘The Heart Bus’

If you happened to tune in to Australian Story on ABC last night, you will have seen the wonderful story of Dr Gomes and the Heart of Australia mobile cardiology clinic – affectionately known as ‘The Heart Bus’:

Varley Group proudly manufactured this appliance at our Queensland facility between February and October 2014, utilising on average more than a dozen skilled employees at a time from design through to manufacture. The vehicle is a large divisibl load semi-trailer requiring expert planning by all parties involved to ensure the compliant and functional installation of sensitive medical equipment, power generation facilities, hygiene amenities, disabled accessibility and features common to standard medical facilities such as waiting areas, consult rooms and reception areas.

The vast size of the trailer was also a momentous challenge to overcome; legally the largest trailer appliance allowed to be built for use on Australian roads, significant engineering skill and dexterity was poured into the project. Varley worked diligently to develop a concept that satisfied all compliance limitations, yet still suited the vehicle’s ultimate purpose of acting as a fully-functional examination clinic on wheels.

The design and production of the trailer was such a success that, not only are Heart of Australia and Dr Gomes utilising the appliance with such momentous achievement, but the innovative concept is also being translated across to additional mobile service vehicle designs including libraries and other health facilities.

Time lapse footage of Varley’s construction of the momentous appliance can also be viewed on our YouTube channel here:

We offer our congratulations to all involved with the project and their well-deserved recognition by Australian Story and the ABC. We are proud to have been part of such a remarkable achievement.

Congratulations to Brian Heslop and Stephen Dart who both celebrate a remarkable 30 years with Varley this month.

In a ceremony with many colleagues and friends, Brian and Stephen were presented with gifts by managing director Jeff Phillips, and shared nostalgic stories of their time with Varley.
We sincerely thank Brian and Stephen for their lasting hard work over so many years!

Varley Group Interoperability

Varley expresses our thanks to employees Aaron Morgan, Morgan Frew, Andrew Durer and Nat Barnes for their recent valuable group interoperability efforts.

As a national company with over 600 employees spread across multiple sites, Varley relies upon many skilled employees to share their knowledge, abilities and work ethic with each other to ensure maximum job quality and complete customer satisfaction.

Aaron, Morgan, Andrew and Nat travelled interstate and worked long and hard hours away from home to ensure that particular projects were carried out on-time, without issue and to budget. Their work is of tremendous value to the company and we sincerely thank them for their efforts.

Varley Group to participate in P-TECH education initiative

Varley Group is proud to announce that we will serve as industry contributors to the Federal Government’s innovative new ‘P-TECH’ initiative.

P-TECH aims to ensure that the youth of Australia are entering the labour market with the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) skills and knowledge required to succeed at work. The scheme provides a framework for effective cross-sector collaboration and enables industry to be actively involved in supporting young people’s careers.

The initiative will benefit students and industries nationwide; Varley’s contribution will occur among Hunter-based students seeking further skills and understanding of the aerospace industry, and will be coupled with participation by other local businesses.

In a ceremony held earlier today at Hunter River High School in Raymond Terrace, Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham (pictured, fifth from left) announced the P-TECH initiative alongside representatives from participating educational and business organisations, including Varley Group’s Managing Director, Jeff Phillips (second from left) and HRHS Principal, Deb Dibley (centre).

Varley Group is honoured to participate in the upcoming P-TECH scheme and thanks Senator Birmingham, the Federal Government and all participating educational and corporate organisations for the chance to be a part of this outstanding initiative. We look forward to aiding the development of our future STEM leaders and professionals.
