If you happened to tune in to Australian Story on ABC last night, you will have seen the wonderful story of Dr Gomes and the Heart of Australia mobile cardiology clinic – affectionately known as ‘The Heart Bus’:
Varley Group proudly manufactured this appliance at our Queensland facility between February and October 2014, utilising on average more than a dozen skilled employees at a time from design through to manufacture. The vehicle is a large divisibl load semi-trailer requiring expert planning by all parties involved to ensure the compliant and functional installation of sensitive medical equipment, power generation facilities, hygiene amenities, disabled accessibility and features common to standard medical facilities such as waiting areas, consult rooms and reception areas.
The vast size of the trailer was also a momentous challenge to overcome; legally the largest trailer appliance allowed to be built for use on Australian roads, significant engineering skill and dexterity was poured into the project. Varley worked diligently to develop a concept that satisfied all compliance limitations, yet still suited the vehicle’s ultimate purpose of acting as a fully-functional examination clinic on wheels.
The design and production of the trailer was such a success that, not only are Heart of Australia and Dr Gomes utilising the appliance with such momentous achievement, but the innovative concept is also being translated across to additional mobile service vehicle designs including libraries and other health facilities.
Time lapse footage of Varley’s construction of the momentous appliance can also be viewed on our YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7CLTIwIHn0
We offer our congratulations to all involved with the project and their well-deserved recognition by Australian Story and the ABC. We are proud to have been part of such a remarkable achievement.
